Aluminum Casting Industry Experience

With metal castings it’s so important to choose the right partner to ensure both a quality experience, and quality parts. Calidad is an ISO 9001 and AS9100 RevD Certified casting company.

We have a wide range of investment casting experience providing cast aluminum parts for a wide variety of industries.  As an ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100 certified casting company, our quality system ensures we meet the most rigorous standards set forth by both the industrial and aerospace markets. We employ these same quality standards to all industries we’ve supported which include aerospace, industrial, medical, transportation and commercial markets.

Multiple factors affect both the quality and durability of metal castings. When it comes to producing quality metal castings, experience matters. Understanding casting geometry, material qualities in both liquid and solid states, fluid life, solidification shrinkage, and heat transfer considerations to name just a few.

With our extensive aluminum casting experience, we also have a wealth of knowledge in understanding the cost drivers that impact your overall cost. For example, decisions regarding geometry have a direct impact on your overall cost, and our input has resulted in savings for many of our metal casting projects. We’ll take the time to listen to your specific needs and put our experience to work for you to help ensure a successful outcome for your metal casting project.

Advantages of Investment Casting

Advantages of investment casting include unlimited design flexibility, the ability to create highly complex shapes, option to cast a wide range of sizes, low tooling costs, and flexible quantities.

What is Lost Wax Casting?

Lost wax casting is a method of creating metal objects by first making a wax model, then encasing it in a mold, and finally melting away the wax to leave a hollow space in the mold into which molten metal is poured. The process is also known as investment casting, as the mold is typically made by “investing” the wax model in a ceramic slurry. Lost wax casting has been used for thousands of years to create a wide variety of objects, and is used by a wide variety of industries today including aerospace, medical, manufacturing and many others.

One of the key advantages of lost wax casting is that it allows for great detail and accuracy in the final metal object. The wax model can be sculpted or carved to create intricate designs and shapes, which are then reproduced in the final metal piece. Additionally, lost wax casting can be used to create objects in a variety of metals, including aluminum, gold, silver, bronze, and steel.

The process of lost wax casting typically involves several steps. First, the wax model is created, either by sculpting it by hand or by using a 3D printer to create a digital model that is then printed in wax. Next, the wax model is coated in a ceramic slurry and allowed to dry, creating a hard outer shell. The wax is then melted away, leaving a hollow space in the ceramic mold. Finally, molten metal is poured into the mold, filling the space left by the melted wax. After the metal has cooled and solidified, the ceramic mold is broken away to reveal the final metal object.

Lost wax casting is commonly used in the production of small and medium-sized castings, especially those with complex geometry and high precision. The process can be automated for mass production or done by hand for one-of-a-kind pieces.
